Hot Shot!

Once in a very long while you get a call to do something a little extraordinary - without a lot of notice.

At 17:00 on Sunday I got an email asking if, with Peter, we could pick up a rented SUV at the airport at 08:00 the next morning and drive to Bamfield - that's three hours of highway and another hour and a half of pretty sketchy road. At Bamfield we were to board a Coast Guard cutter and transit twenty miles offshore to meet the research vessel R/V Falkor.

By 14:30 that afternoon we were alongside the Falkor and just a short (but nevertheless exciting) small boat transfer from joining the ROPOS crew.
For the next three days we supported the ROPOS ROV through a series of science dives while enjoying the incomparable hospitality of the Captain and crew of the Falkor. What was the panic about? I'll tell you when I see you.
